Your Freebox TV no longer turns on and the red light is off? Don’t panic, this problem is quite common and can often be resolved in a few simple steps. Follow this practical guide to diagnose and resolve this issue quickly.

Check the connections as a first reflex

Before getting into technical details, start by inspecting the connections of your Freebox TV. A poorly connected cable or a faulty outlet may explain the absence of a red light.

Step 1: Check the connections

  • Ensure that the power cable is properly plugged into the power outlet and into the electrical socket of your Freebox Player.
  • Inspect the HDMI or Scart cable connecting your Freebox TV to your television.
  • Also check that the Ethernet cable is properly connected if you are using a Freeplug for the network.

Step 2: Test the electrical outlet

  • Unplug the power plug of the Freebox TV and plug another electrical device (lamp or phone charger) into the same outlet to check that it is working properly.

Step 3: Inspect the condition of the power cable

  • Visually examine the cable for any signs of damage or cuts.
  • If you have another compatible cable, try plugging it in to see if the problem persists.

Restart your Freebox TV

Restarting the Freebox TV is a simple but effective solution to resolve many technical issues.

Step 1: Unplug the Freebox TV

  • Unplug the power cable from the electrical outlet.
  • Wait 30 seconds before plugging it back in.

Step 2: Plug back in and wait

  • Reconnect the Freebox TV to the electrical outlet.
  • Check if the red light turns on again after a few seconds.

If the red light still does not turn on, proceed to the next step.

Test the Freeplugs to check if the box is powered

If you are using Freeplugs to connect your Freebox Player and Server, a power supply issue or synchronization problem may be the cause.

Step 1: Check the Freeplugs’ lights

  • The Freeplugs should display a steady green light.
  • If the light is off or blinking, it means there is a connection or power issue.

Step 2: Swap the Freeplugs

  • Unplug both Freeplugs (the one from the Server and the one from the Player).
  • Swap them and plug them back in correctly.
  • Check if the red light on the Freebox TV turns on after this operation.

Step 3: Reset the Freeplugs

  • Press the reset button usually located on the side or back of the Freeplugs.
  • Hold it for about 10 seconds until the lights blink.
  • Release and wait for the lights to stabilize.

Check your box’s remote control

The Freebox remote control can sometimes cause issues, even if it may seem trivial.

Step 1: Check the batteries

  • Open the battery compartment and replace them with new ones.
  • Ensure they are installed with the correct polarity.

Step 2: Test the remote control

  • Point the remote control directly at the Freebox Player.
  • Press the “Power” button and see if the Freebox responds.
  • If nothing happens, it may be useful to reset the remote control or check if it is paired.
